The Confederate section, now known as the &#8220;Old South&#8221; section, recreates Texas of the mid 1800s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The original attractions in the Confederacy included the 1,200 seat Amphitheater, which in 1968 was converted to the 950 seat \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/parktimes.com\/ptsarticles\/welcome\/sections\/oldsouth\/southern-palace\/\">Southern Palace<\/a>. In addition, present for the first year were the \u00a0Confederate recruiting station and old south <a href=\"https:\/\/parktimes.com\/ptsarticles\/welcome\/sections\/oldsouth\/reenactment\/\">re-enactment performers<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/parktimes.com\/ptsarticles\/welcome\/sections\/oldsouth\/flying-jenny\/\">Little Dixie Carousel<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/parktimes.com\/ptsarticles\/sections\/confederacy-old-south-section\/stagecoach\/\">\u00a0<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/parktimes.com\/ptsarticles\/welcome\/sections\/oldsouth\/stagecoach\/\">Butterfield Stage Coach<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.parktimes.com\/sections\/confideracy\/stage.php\">.<\/a>\u00a0 A Dixieland Band provided additional entertainment and Nalar&#8217;s Plantation House was one of the park&#8217;s largest eating areas.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/parktimes.com\/ptsarticles\/sections\/confederacy-old-south-section\/skull-island\/\">&nbsp;<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/parktimes.com\/ptsarticles\/welcome\/sections\/oldsouth\/skull-island\/\">Skull Island<\/a> was located in the Confederate section, but due to its own extensive history, themeing and numerous attractions, it is covered in a separate article.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;In 1962, the <a href=\"https:\/\/parktimes.com\/ptsarticles\/sections\/boomtown\/canoes\/\">&nbsp;<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/parktimes.com\/ptsarticles\/welcome\/sections\/boomtown\/canoes\/\">Caddo War Canoes<\/a>&nbsp;was added, with the original entrance to the west of the Amphitheater, in the Confederate Section. The canoes&nbsp;were moved to <a href=\"https:\/\/parktimes.com\/ptsarticles\/welcome\/sections\/boomtown\/\">Boomtown<\/a> for the 1964 season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; In 1964, the &nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/parktimes.com\/ptsarticles\/welcome\/sections\/oldsouth\/speelunker-cave\/\">Spee-Lunker&#8217;s Cave Ride<\/a>&nbsp;was added and the <a href=\"https:\/\/parktimes.com\/ptsarticles\/sections\/confederacy-old-south-section\/stagecoach\/\">&nbsp;<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/parktimes.com\/ptsarticles\/welcome\/sections\/oldsouth\/stagecoach\/\">Stagecoach<\/a>&nbsp;run shortened and the Que house was moved from next to Chicken Plantation to across from Cave. At the end of the 1967 season, the &nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/parktimes.com\/ptsarticles\/welcome\/sections\/oldsouth\/stagecoach\/\">Stagecoach<\/a>&nbsp;ride was completely removed.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; In 1969, the Chevy Show was added at the site of the Stagecoach Que-house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; After the 1974 season, the <a href=\"https:\/\/parktimes.com\/ptsarticles\/welcome\/sections\/oldsouth\/flying-jenny\/\">Little Dixie Carousel<\/a>, which had been earlier renamed as the Flying Jenny, and moved down the street closer to the cave entrance, was removed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/parktimes.com\/ptsarticles\/welcome\/sections\/oldsouth\/flying-jenny\/\">&nbsp; The Flying Jenny<\/a> was replaced for the 1975 season by the &nbsp;Red Baron&nbsp;children&#8217;s ride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;At the end of the 1982 season, the remainder of Skull Island was removed to make remove for the <a href=\"https:\/\/parktimes.com\/ptsarticles\/sections\/towersection\/roaring-rapids\/\">&nbsp;<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/parktimes.com\/ptsarticles\/welcome\/sections\/tower-section\/roaring-rapids\/\">Roaring Rapids.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; At the end of the 1991 season, the &nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/parktimes.com\/ptsarticles\/welcome\/sections\/oldsouth\/speelunker-cave\/\">Spee-lunkers<\/a>&nbsp;were removed from Cave and replaced with Warner Brother&#8217;s characters.
